The Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) through Young Scientists Network – ASM (YSN-ASM) has successfully organised the YSN-ASM Chrysalis Award since 2020. Through Chrysalis Award, talents of promising researchers amongst the final year PhD students across the nation have been identified and recognised. These young researchers are empowered to be responsive, adaptive, and collaborative in aligning with the Science, Technology, Innovation and Economic (STIE) outlook for Malaysia and to inspire the young generation of scientists to contribute back to the society. The theme for YSN-ASM 2024 Chrysalis Award is ‘Tomorrow’s Leaders: Cultivating a Culture of Innovation and Impact for Our Nations and Communities’. 

 

Through this competition, 15 exceptional young scientists will be selected from a pool of outstanding candidates to be the YSN-ASM Chrysalis Award Finalists. They will undergo a series of 10 workshops comprising of leadership training and skill development from April to September 2024. These finalists will showcase their research ideas and three (3) main winners will be selected based on their outstanding demonstration of knowledge, enthusiasm, leadership, creativity, teamwork, presentation skills, and performance throughout the workshops.  

  

In alignment with the objective of nurturing the talents of promising future scientists for the nation, the finalists will also receive continuous support and mentoring from YSN-ASM for the next five (5) years after the programme. This ongoing support will hopefully aid the finalists in navigating challenges in their research endeavours and subsequently empower them to become outstanding researchers contributing to Malaysia’s STIE ecosystem.

Requirements

: Malaysian citizens in their final year of PhD 

  (Have not completed research VIVA before 15 March 2024)

 

  35 years old and below as of 1 January 2024

 

Applicants are required to fill in the online application form (https://www.akademisains.gov.my/2024-chrysalis-award/) and submit the following supporting documents before 15 March 2024: 

 

  i. Curriculum Vitae and Passport photo 

 ii. Motivational Essay (200 words) – Describe your research and life experience, and how have these shaped your ambitions for the future? How  would society benefit from this?

 iii. A4-sized Research Poster (Softcopy: PNG, TIFF format) – Explain your PhD research work and its impact on society. Make it creative, short, and easy to understand for non-specialist researchers. 

 iv. Supporting documents as an attachment – in ZIP File which comprises of Supporting letter, article indexing, copy of articles, certificates, etc. Applicants are encouraged to go through the application form first before preparing your materials.
